Terrible cook needs easy supper recipes.?

Hey there! Thanks for taking time to read my question! Yay! I'm a 24 year old mom of two, ages 3 1/2 years and 1 year and sshhh ~ I'M A TERRIBLE COOK (not to mention that I hate cooking in general). Anyways, my husband has made it very clear that he's getting tired of spaghetti (and all other shaped noodles with sphagetti sauce on them), pancakes, and soups of all forms (you know - veg. soup, chilli, veg. beef soup, chicken noodle soup - soups), and grilled cheese sandwiches. Much else is beyond my ability (I am a horrible cook - and I hate doing it), not to mention, it's kinda hard to read a cook book and follow precise instructions with two screaming kids on my heels.

Anyways, does anyone have some quick, fairly easy (when I say fairly easy of course, I mean not much harder than 10 to 20 minutes prep time) recipes that are me-proof? Thanks in advance for your time and God bless!Terrible cook needs easy supper recipes.?

baked chicken

pot roast, just throw a roast in a roasting pan with some vegetables and a package of onion soup mix and cover and bake at 350 for 2 hours

casseroles

tacos are easy and only take 20 minutes, you can get everything ready before your husband gets home then have him watch the kids while you cook them up.

buy a slow cooker, you can just throw everything in it and let it cook by itself for 4 hours. there are lots of different recipes for them just google it.
just get some chicken put it in a baking dish. and get a can cream of mushroom and a can cream of chicken mix them up with some chopped onions and mushrooms and pour it over the chicken. pop it in the oven on 400 for about 45 minutes and serve over rice... super easy and prep time is about 10 minutes. it takes a bit longer to cook but vertually no mess to clean and you can buy instant rice so its pretty easy
Oh dude you cant be worse than i am but i have some easy ones i help with:

Antipasto Kebobs (as an appetizer) you just take like...salami slices, parsley, cheese, green and black olives, stuff like that and you marinate it in Italian dressing stick them all on a kebab, for actual dinner recipes, Sloppy joes are easy, Tacos, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Pastas like shrimp alfredo, homemade pizza, stuff like that.
It's possible to make fairly good quiche with little effort. Eggs, milk/cream, frozen spinach, pre-grated cheese, chuck it in a frozen pie crust. Slice a few tomatoes for a side dish.
You might be interested in looking up Rachael Ray. She has a TV show, 30 Minute Meals, and they are easy. I have tried many of them, and they are really great.

You could also considering watching her show.
There are oodles of things you could do that are super simple!

PAN BURRITOS

1 package of flour tortillas (or a flavored wrap that you like)

1 can of refried beans (Old El Paso is the best)

2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar blend)

sour cream

chopped green onion

guacamole

corn chips

1 large tomato, diced

1 small can of sliced black olives, drained

shredded lettuce

1 can of Enchillada sauce (El Paso brand is best)

Preheat your oven to 350. While your oven is heating take a 9x13 pan and spray a little cooking spray on the bottom to prevent sticking. Put a tortilla, spread some beans, add a little cheese, top with a tortilla. Continue that way in layers side by side until the top layer is just a tortilla. Pour the entire can of enchillada sauce over the top and top with any remaining cheese. Put in the oven covered for about 20 minutes or until it's hot all the way through. Remove and cut into pieces to serve. Top lettuce, tomato, sourcream, etc... and serve corn chips on the side. Prep time: about 10 minutes Cook time about 20.

It's wonderful yummy!

You can also look in your grocery store for Cambells Supper Bakes. You just add chicken that is thawed and fresh before you bake. They are super easy and come with everything but the meat.

Another easy thing you can do is get a box of Zataran's Jambaylia mix in the rice aisle. Cut up some keilbasa type sausage into it while it cooks and pick up a corn bread mix to make for the side. If you want to kick up your corn bread add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese to the mix before you put into the pan to bake. Super easy and yummy!

Get a salad kit in the produce aisle. Buy a red onion, cucumber and tomato to cut up on it. Buy a package of precooked steak or chicken strips for fajitas in the fridge section of your market. Make the salad, add the meat and some shredded cheese and croutons with a favorite dressing and yum! Pick up a baggette bread from the bakery and you're set.

ASIAN WRAPS

1 package of flour tortillas

1 package of broccoli slaw or cole slaw mix from produce dept.

1 bottle of Ken's Asian Seaseme dressing

1 box of Tyson Honey Battered chicken tenders

seaseme seeds

What to do:

Bake the tenders according to the package directions.

In a bowl mix the slaw mix and dressing. Just enough to cover it a little, not drown it. Toss. Add about a table spoon of seaseme seeds to toss in the mix.

On the tortillas put some of the slaw mix and about 3-4 tenders when they are ready. Roll it up. If you want some added flavor or crunch, throw in some Chow Mein noodles (La Choy in the asia section).

FAST SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN

* cook some minute rice, set aside when ready and fluff with a fork.

* thaw and warm some chicken nuggets in the microwave.

* in a large skillet add the nuggets and a jar of La Choy sweet and sour sauce. Toss to coat and heat through.

Serve over the rice, top with chow mein noodles. It's really fast and easy and it's good!

PO- Boy's

This is a southern thing, but this is really good. Get a box of popcorn shrimp at the market and cook to package. It won't take long to crisp up and be ready. Buy some hoagie style buns and spread on some mayo, put a piece or two of your favorite cheese, some shredded lettuce and the cooked pop corn shrimp. Serve slaw or chips on the side and dont forget the cocktail sauce!

Get a rice mix like Rice a Roni or something similar from your market. Cook it to package- it's not hard. Knorr makes one that does in 7 minutes on the stove that comes in alot of flavors. Bake some chicken breast with some seasoned flavored salt sprinkled on and steam some broccoli or just do in the microwave.

Get one of those precooked chickens at the market. Keep it warm.

Then peel and cut up some potatoes, boil them until fork tender and drain and mash with a little butter, pinch of salt and pepper and about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese until creamy. For two people use about 4-5 potatoes. Russets are best. Get a box of Green Giant brand veggies in a style you like and microwave it to heat it up. You have roast chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies for dinner. If you want some biscuits get a can of biscuits to bake. Those are super easy.

Get a can of pizza crust, a jar of sauce, some mozzerella cheese and pepperoni slices. Roll the crust out on a cookie sheet lightly sprayed with cooking spray. Add the sauce, layer of cheese, the pepperoni. Add olives, green pepper or whatever you want on a pizza and bake. Takes 20 minutes to dinner. Get a salad kit in the produce aisle and some croutons and jar of dressing to toss on the side. You have pizza and salad.

These are just a few quick fix meals that are super easy and don't need alot of cooking knowledge to do. Fix these and your hubby will be happier at dinner time- guaranteed!!
Do you own a crockpot? If not, consider getting one. Following manufacturer's (or crockpot cookbook) recipes, you can make delicious, nutritious meals with very little work by just throwing meat, vegetables, herbs and spices into the pot in the morning, and letting them simmer all day. Its easy and it's ready when suppertime rolls around.

Other suggestions: Estimate how much you'll need, then cut up boneless chicken breasts into bite sized strips, add 2 - 3 tbsp.soy sauce, stir fry them in a wok or frying pan in 2 -3 tbsp. canola oil over high heat for a minute or two along with a few thinly sliced scallions and 1 tsp. finely chopped mild jalepino peppers. After a minute or so add coarsely chopped broccoli; (or pea pods; or green/red peppers and pineapple chunks; whatever) a little water, and continue to stir fry a couple more minutes, or until tender, and serve over rice. Rice is simple to make; add one cup of rice to two cups of water with a couple pinches of salt; bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. After 14 minutes remove from heat, fluff with fork and serve.

Another suggestion; and this is delicious: Coarsely shred a half a head or more of cabbage (depending on how many you're feeding); stir fry with thinly sliced scallions, shredded carrots, and bite sized strips of pork or chicken in canola oil, soy sauce, and a little water (or chicken broth) until tender. Serve over rice with Hoisan Sauce. It can also be served like the Moo Shoo pork you get in the Chinese Restaurant, in heated pita bread, or soft tacos.

Experiment with various spices/sauces and you'll think your a trained professional before you you know it!
FISH

- flavor the fish with a sqeeze of lemon and salt and pepper on one side. Put it in the broiler for 3-4 mins on each side. Done.

CHICKEN

- Honey lime chicken- take your chicken peices and lay them in the baking vessel you are using. Flavor both sides with salt and pepper. In a bowl mix honey (about a tblspn or 2) and a sqeeze of a whle lime. Pour over the chicken. Put a bit of water at the bottom of the pan so it will not burn or stick. Put it in the oven for 30 mins @ 400deg or until golden brown.

Spicy Chicken- Flavor chicken on both sides with salt and pepper. Take a pat of butter and smear it on one side of the chicken. (make sure you are doing this in the cooking vessel so all the flavor can get on the pan). Sprinkle with pizza peppers. (again, make sure you put a bit of water on the bottom of the cooking vessel as not to burn). 400deg, 30 mins or until golden

*Tip* you can use the drippings at the bottom of the pan as a dip for bread

VEGGIES

You can steam veggies in the microwave to save time. Place in a bowl with a bit of water at the bottom. Place a paper towel on top that is a bit damp. Microwave for apx 1 1/2 mins

Purees are delicious on most anything. Try using things like canelloni/kidney beans. Tomatoes and onions chopped over romaine lettuce is an easy beautiful salad. As far as dressing goes, olive oil vinegar lemon and boom! You have a fresh delicious dressing

I have buckets more recipes. Email me if youd like

Take care
My roasting pan is my friend....

Here are a few things I make. I don't have exact recipes for any of these, I just wing it and it seems to turn out...lol....Experiment!

1 whole chicken, few pats of butter, 1 cup of water, 1 pack dry onion soup. Toss it all together and put the oven on 300 and bake for a couple of hours. I make rice with it and serve with a salad. To make the rice, put two cups of rice in a glass container with a lid, rinse the rice well (the water will go from milky to clear) then cover with 4 cups of water. Microwave it for 15 min. and you'll have perfect rice! If you want to get fancy, saute chopped celery, onions and carrrots in a little butter in a skillet, pour the cooked rice in and cover it with 2 cups of chicken stock, a little salt and pepper, let it come to a boil then turn the heat down and let it simmer...yummy.

Toss a roast beef in the roasting pan with potatoes, carrots, celery, onion(all cut up of course), a little water and a couple beef bullion cubes. Season with garlic and a little pepper. Roast for a few hours on 300. Serve with nice bread.

Okay...1 more....

Scalloped potatoes and ham. I make this one in a glass casserole dish. Peel potatoes (we are a family of 6 so I use 8-10) and then slice them as thin as you can (if you have a grater, there is a slicer on the side). Layer in a pan like this. Butter, potatoes, salt and pepper, shredded cheddar cheese, over and over until it's all in the pan. Pour a cup of milk over, cover in foil and bake at 400 for about 45 min. While it's cooking, take some sliced or cubed ham and fry it up (or bake one) in a pan. Very yummy.

Stop saying ';I'm a horrible cook and I hate doing it'; and start saying ';Hey, I'm pretty good at this and it's not really that hard!';

I have four kids and I know it's not easy to cook with little ones underfoot. When mine were younger (and even now many days) I would use nap time to toss something together and get it in the oven. It makes your house smell wonderful and it's nice not to have to rush around at dinner time and cook. You just open the oven and there it is! Try new recipes and soon you'll have an arsenal of a few weeks worth of meals that you can rotate.

My other advice? Let your HUSBAND cook one night a week :)...No reason why he can't whip something up on the grill while you have some girly time....

Good luck :)
Do you enjoy cooking?
