Mexican Steak Salad (healthy and protein, right?? I hope so, lol xD)

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 8 minutes

Ingredients:

* 15 oz. can kidney beans, rinsed and drained

* 10 oz. pkg. mixed salad greens

* 1 avocado, peeled and chopped

* 5 plum tomatoes, chopped

* 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

* 1 cup salsa

* 1 lb. boneless sirloin steak

* 1 cup French salad dressing

* 2 cups crushed tortilla chips

Preparation:

In large bowl combine beans, salad greens, avocado, tomatoes, and cheese and toss to combine. Add salsa and toss to combine.

Brush steak with 2 Tbsp. french salad dressing and grill steak on two sided dual contact grill for 5-8 minutes until medium doneness. Remove steak from grill, cover and let sit for 5 minutes. Slice against the grain into 1/4'; thick slices and place on salad. Drizzle with french dressing and top with tortilla chips. Serve immediately. 8 servings What is a good recipe for me to use to cook something in my dorm?
What kind of cooking appliance(s) are you allowed in your dorm room? For protein, go with peanut butter! Go for the crunchy kind, %26amp; a bottle of soy sauce - this makes the most superb peanut sauce for thai cooking. Keep onion %26amp; garlic powder on hand. Also, a bottle of hot sauce of your choice. Do you have a little fridge? If so, invest in a bag or 2 of frozen veggies, maybe a can or 2 of water chestnuts %26amp; baby corn, %26amp; you're good to go. Do you have a coffee maker? If so, get a pkg of boil-in-bag rice - fix just over 1/2 a pot of just plain hot water. When that's boiled through, remove from heat to a nearby bath towel, etc (for accidental spillage), %26amp; add in your packet of rice, a dollop of oil or butter, stir a bit, cover the coffee pot with foil or plastic wrap to hold in the steam, %26amp; Turn coffee pot OFF! Now just wait 5-10 minutes. I made tons of things in my coffee maker back when I was in college - mashed potatoes, rice, steamed vegetables - you just have to stay there %26amp; keep an eye on it - don't wander off doing something else until the kitchen's on fire, etc... One of my fave comfort foods to do this way was a pkt of instant mashed potatoes, 1/4 pint milk, 2 tbs veg oil, 1/4 tsp salt, %26amp; 1/2 a can of corn, drained. For dorm cooking, if you have the space, the best appliances are: a coffee maker, a crockpot (!) (%26amp; table on which to hold said thing -even if it's just a TV tray, long as it's stable), %26amp; a little fridge. A microwave oven would be nice - doesn't need all the bells %26amp; whistles: a can of chunky soup over mashed potatoes is great, or an inexpensive pot pie over same or rice, or Ramen noodles.
Potatoes and eggs.....and then add a little something for a kick, if you want. Peel some potatoes, dice them and fry them in just a very small amount of butter or oil of your choice until golden brown on the outside. Add eggs, like about 2 and stir. When completely mixed and getting done, you can add some hot sauce or something. This is an easy comfort food that is good for dorms.
Pretty much anything microwaveable is good dorm food. I used to make pizzas in my microwave

-A small flour tortilla for crust

-tomato sauce

-mozzarella

-pepperoni.

Microwave until it's all cooked, and you have a mini pizza
